Residual-cost coverage

BeihilfeBest covers the portion of your medical costs not reimbursed by Beihilfe — typically 10% to 50% depending on your status and federal state.

Reimbursable up to the maximum rate specified in the GOÄ (doctors) / GOZ (dentists). For medically necessary treatment, reimbursement above the maximum GOÄ/GOZ fee schedule is possible.

Why private residual-cost cover remains essential

Even when your formal Beihilfe percentage looks generous, significant reimbursement gaps exist in practice — because Beihilfe percentages apply only to what each state considers beihilfefähig (eligible). Common gap areas:

Optical care

Many states cap reimbursable amounts for glasses well below market prices — the real gap is often larger than your Beihilfe percentage suggests.

Dental lab & materials

High-quality lab and material costs often exceed what Beihilfe considers eligible. Without supplementary cover, you bear the difference.

Hospital comfort

Chief physician and private rooms are excluded in some states, limited in others, or subject to co-payments. BeihilfeKlinik →
